Every October, Athens Academy’s 7th and 8th graders get excited for the fall dance. The eighth-grade students and Gerousia members plan the dance. Eighth graders decorate, bring snacks and refreshments, and clean up at the end of the night. This year, Gerousia picked black and costumes as the theme for the night. Each grade has a dinner before the dance at a parent’s house, one for the boys and one for the girls. Then, everyone arrives at the dance at eight, ready for two hours of fun.

Two eighth-grade students, Karlin Silvershield and Benji Rotberg, told me about their experiences. One of Silvershield’s favorite parts was the dinner, saying, “Dinner was very good and we had burgers, mac and cheese, and milkshakes.”

Rotberg had fun hanging out with friends. The music was also a highlight of both of their nights, and Rotberg enjoyed participating in the line dances.

Overall, it seemed like a night to remember for all of the students.
