The Varsity Flag Football team has had a great season so far! The team has faced many talented teams and has performed very well against them. The team is sitting at a 3-5 record; however, all of the games the team has won so far have been won by large margins, including beating Morgan County 34-6, Jackson County 19-0, and Warren County 27-0.
Furthermore, the team has improved tremendously this season. Coach Alan Weiler complemented the team in an interview and talked about their biggest improvement so far this season, saying, “I think the best thing we’ve done is learning an entirely new offensive system and defensive system, which allows us to switch defensive schemes in the middle of a game, as well as use multiple running formations under the same position formation. This has been a huge benefit for this season.”
He also commented on what the team can do to improve when they start playing their region games. Weiler said, “I think it comes down to our technique, making sure that we secure catches, and then look for that pitch opportunity on defense. If we can work on those fundamentals, we’re going to be just fine.”
The girls played their first region game on October 30, against Winder Barrow High School. They are working very hard at practice to prepare for the upcoming region games, to secure a spot in the playoffs!
