We are only a couple of months into the school year, but the Drama department is already off to a strong start!. The One-Act Play will be in the fall this year, beginning with the first show on Thursday, October 16th, through that Sunday, with a benefit show the week after (proceeds from that night will go to Salvation Army).
When asked what her requirements were for choosing a show, Ms. T laid out her three restrictions: “Does it fit the kids, can we do the set, and can I costume it?” This production is Athens Academy’s rendition of Guys and Dolls, a “staple of American theater,” according to Ms. T, that has never been performed in the Upper School.
The competition requirements for One Act state that it has to be 55 minutes or less, and the stage has to start and end completely cleared of the set. For this reason, the set for the play has several black-and-white NYC skyline backdrops and very little furniture for easier transportation, since the actual competition is at a different school. Ms. T described the costumes as “cartoon-style,” with solid colors and black to make the actors “pop” on the stage.
Sophomores Dyllan Adams and Adair Lang said they are “so excited” to see Guys and Dolls come to the Athens Academy stage. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support!
