From January 22-February 6, all middle schoolers can participate in Speedy Spartans. It is an afterschool program where students run for an hour, 3 days a week. Speedy Spartans takes place during the three weeks before the Spartan 5K for people who want to prepare. However, you don’t have to do the 5K to participate in it.
This year there are 54 people participating. They are coached by Mrs. Olson and Mrs. Land. Assisting them this year are Adelaide Ellis and Molly Smith, both ACAD seniors. Mrs.Land has been helping for around 15 years and she says, “There is no better way to spend an hour after school than running around in the woods with your friends.”
Speedy Spartans run on the back 30 or on the cross country course. They also complete track workouts. Speedy Spartans is a fantastic way to spend one hour after school! What’s better than running in the woods with your friends for an hour? Absolutely nothing!
Hunter Lunceford has done Speedy Spartans for 3 years. His favorite part is, “being a leader and making sure the younger kids do what they need to.” Speedy Spartans is open to all, and is something that you should definitely consider doing in the future for all 5th, 6th, and 7th graders!
