On Thursday, November 14th, Athens Academy held its World Language Induction Ceremony. 46 students were inducted this year, eight of which were inducted into the French society, and the remaining 38 students were inducted into the Spanish society.
The main speaker at the event was Mr. Ivan Češković, an ACAD alumnus from the class of 1996 who flew in from Karlovac, Croatia to deliver his speech. Originally born in Croatia, Mr. Češković was given the opportunity to attend Athens Academy and play basketball for the team. Today, he works as the Director of International Business for Lana Printing.
In his speech, Mr. Češković discussed how basketball was his passion, especially as a young teen. His transition into the US was not easy and he experienced a massive culture shock, yet at the same time, he enjoyed his stay here and learned from it. An unfortunate leg injury stopped Mr. Češković from continuing with basketball, but luckily he found another passion in business where he works today. His main message was clear: explore your passions and be open to new things, especially internationally and with other languages.
This year’s induction ceremony marks the eleventh one at ACAD and helped continue our strive for excellence and discovery. The 46 students inducted represent some, but not all, of the most outgoing and linguistic students at Athens Academy. These students have gone beyond the minimum requirements for language classes, and many of them will continue on with the respective future AP or honors level classes for their language.
