On September 23rd, Upper School students received the devastating news: school was canceled that Friday because of Hurricane Helene. While having an early start to the weekend is fun, the news also revealed that the Homecoming Parade scheduled for that Friday would also be canceled. A storm had rained on our parade for the first time in ACAD history.
But the rain couldn’t keep ACAD down for long. The parade was rescheduled for October 11th. However, there was an obstacle: there would be no more allotted time for homecoming committees. This means students had to work around their busy schedules to get the floats and banners done.
Senior Marie Rutledge worked hard on the banner in her personal time to get it done for the parade. “Although we did get the barrier done, I missed getting to work with everyone during committee time.”
Nonetheless, the show must go on. Finding time to finish the floats and banners was a hurdle but student utilized their creativity to find new ways to bring their themes to life.
Instead of trailers, students hung their banners from cars and trucks. In addition, students added other decorations such as candy for Candyland and question marks for Clue.
In the end, nothing can rain on our parade.
