Writing for Publication is a block seven honors elective class that was created by Mrs. Edmison. It is an innovative course that tackles creative writing, which differs from the tedious essays most people think of. However, only three students so far have been willing to give creative writing a chance. I believe that there are many more individuals within the Spartan community who have the talent to put the potential of their individual writing on full display.
Like the name suggests, this course allows students to integrate their respective creativity into their writing skills. Literary projects can then undergo a publication process that can reinforce your prowess as a writer. Moreover, there are a variety of different types of literature that the class focuses on including poetry, playwright, short story writing, and newswriting. This allows students to explore various writing styles that best suit them.
The course is also versatile with personal projects you want to achieve yourself. It allows you to gain the skills and connectivity with your thought process in order to write the best you can.
“This course can give you some ways to bolster your writing and it allows you to express yourself in the ideas within your writing,” Mrs. Edmison says.
The current students taking Writing for Publication agree that the class has improved their writing skills.
“I feel that I am becoming a stronger writer who is more passionate about improving my skills to hopefully help me in the future throughout high school and college,” said Andrew Jones, a senior in the class of 2024, who is currently taking the class.
There are many potential candidates who have the talent to publish immaculate work. Not only can this fulfill a potential goal of yours, but it can also be added as an achievement in your resume. I believe that the main contributing factors to the lack of people within this class is the lack of confidence in writing. However, there is no need to concern yourself about this.
“We try really hard to make the class fun and creative. It does not just give the tools, but also gives the confidence to allow people to put your writing out there,” confirms Mrs. Edmison.
