AP Art is a fairly new academic class that has been added for students. Being part of AP Art opens up tremendous opportunities for students to really express their creativity and grow as both an artist and student. In this course, students have the ability to create pieces that demonstrate their own interest and passions, while building a portfolio to show the progress of their work as well as the finished piece itself.
Students not only create art but show through words as well, explaining the art techniques they experimented with and track the skills they develop along the way. AP Art is not only drawing or painting, it allows students to experiment with multiple new techniques, challenge themselves with abstract ideas, and show not only their artistic growth, but also their personal growth through each piece of art.
A senior at Athens Academy, Maggie Cowart stated, “AP Art has given me the ability to pursue my passion for fashion and design. I am able to design my own clothes with the guidance and extraordinary help Mr. Graves gives me.” Maggie has been diligently working on her art portfolio on fashion and design for a few weeks now. She is exploring the different techniques of art like painting, shading, watercolor, and much more in designing her own clothes.
AP Art not only gives students the opportunity to design art, but it also allows them to “get away from the academic courses for a little, and enjoy peaceful time designing art with friends,” as senior Maggie Cowart stated. AP Art is a course not only for students looking to create art, however also a course where students can dive deep into their passions and pursue them through art itself. Personally, I recommend this course because of the endless learning opportunities.
